Composing for tv, film, & adVERTISING

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Stephen got off to an early musical start when at the age of nine he was encouraged by his older brother to take up the Banjo. At the time, his brother was a back up guitarist in John Denver’s touring band. Two years later, at 11, Stephen Placed third in the annual Topanga Banjo Fiddle Contest playing before a crowd of ten thousand people. As time passed he applied his prodigious banjo skills to guitar, was on his way to becoming a multi instrumentalist, and eventually found himself playing, recording, and touring in several bands in the vibrant LA music scene.

Desiring a more reliable career path in music and drawing on his love of film and television scores, Stephen attended the Guitar Institute in Hollywood where he studied theory and improvisation. While attending GIT he worked in and around the film and TV business and was provided first hand experience into the inner workings of post production, editorial, composing, and the business in general.

Stephen caught a break when two long time friends created a series for Paramount Television and hired him to write several original songs for the series including scoring the main title theme. Stephen has gone on to score hundreds of episodes of comedy television for Universal Television, Comedy Central, Warner Bros TV, NBC, USA, Sci Fi, and Disney. Some early - iconic series Stephen scored include Reno 911!, and Disney’s Good Luck Charlie along with the theme song to the Critically acclaimed, USA - Sci Fi series - “The 4400”.

As his composing career grew, Stephen also stayed focused on his songwriting and on a parallel track he founded the Bosshouse Mu- sic library. In addition to having placed 1000’s of songs throughout TV and Film, Bosshouse was also prominently featured in the Hit Showtime series “Shameless” where over 250 of Stephen’s songs were used throughout the show’s nine season run.

Stephen recently sold his interest in Bosshouse to concentrate solely on scoring .Staying focused on his desire to add more dramatic, longer form scores to his comedy resume, he scored the Critically acclaimed docudrama “WASHINGTON” for Executive Producer Doris Kearns Goodwin and the History Channel, along with several other docu series for ABC and HISTORY /A&E.. He was also hired by Illumination Entertainment in 2017 to score two Animated Minion shorts along with 20 plus minion themed commercials and trailers

Stephen is currently scoring IT”S ALL COUNTRY for Hulu/ABC/Disney, Executive produced by Peyton Manning and Luke Bryan -he is also scoring the highly rated docu series “Port Protection Alaska” for Nat Geo / BBC. Other projects include the recently completed second season of Sony /Affirm TV / scripted drama, “Going Home.” Sony’s Madison Gate Records has also just released a GOING HOME SEASON 2 soundtrack featuring Stephen’s score along with originally composed songs for the acclaimed series. Stephen resides and records in his home studio in Westwood…
